Family Fun in Myrtle Beach: Our Top Tips for a Perfect Weekend with Kids

Sunset soaked orange sky with the sun on the horizon just before setting with calm surf and a brown sun soaked beach.
Myrtle Beach

In early April, my husband, our son, and I took a long weekend trip to Myrtle Beach. We chose this destination because we'd heard about how family-friendly the area is for younger children, and we decided to give it a try.

Where We Stayed

We found the North side of Myrtle Beach to be an excellent option for families. It was quieter and less crowded with spring breakers and college kids. We stayed at the Bay Watch Resort and Conference Center, which you can check out here.

We rented our condo through VRBO and highly recommend it. The company, Big Fish Rentals, run by Julie, offers multiple properties and was very easy to work with.

Communication was seamless, and the condo complex was very kid-friendly. It features multiple outdoor and indoor pools, an indoor lazy river, hot tubs, and umbrella and chair rentals on the beach for an extra fee. Although it was a bit chilly for ocean swimming, we enjoyed the pool and lazy river.

Top 5 Activities for Kids

Here are the top 5 activities we recommend in the area, especially if you're traveling with kids:

A huge, handicap-friendly playground that kids will love.

Best enjoyed during the day, you can ride the SkyWheel, get ice cream, or eat at one of the many restaurants.

Features a kids' zone with kiddy rides and multiple go-kart tracks with single and double riders. Definitely buy the all-day pass for the best value.

Fun for all ages with a variety of marine life exhibits.

A great place to walk around with many shops, restaurants, and fun activities for kids, including rides.

Top 8 Family-Friendly Restaurants

When it comes to dining, here are our top 8 restaurant recommendations in the area:

Located near Savannah's Playground, offering delicious and creative milkshakes.

Multiple locations, cash only, serving fantastic burgers.

Multiple locations, offering tasty Mexican food.

Casual seafood dining with a fun atmosphere.

Get there early for dinner as it gets busy quickly.

A great spot for breakfast.

A coffee shop with amazing croissants and macarons.

Serving an amazing breakfast with mimosas and Bloody Marys.
